Detectors are electronic devices usually used to monitor motion, specifically the movement of people. The motion detector is usually part of a larger system that does the job of carrying out a designated task, or to provide alerts about certain unwanted motion in an area.
Often used as part of an intelligent security apparatus, they have multiple other features making them capable of effective use in other scenarios. Some of these include automatic lighting, controlling household devices, and to conserve energy.
In terms of security and protection of sensitive places, a motion detector is used often as part of an anti-burglar or anti-intruder system. The detector sounds off an alarm for the security managers, personnel or homeowner to become alert, and may also trigger a recording camera to monitor the intrusion.
Apart from security uses, motion detectors are used in several domestic and commercial areas. One of these is automatic door opening and closing in large buildings, malls, and buildings.
They can also be used for several energy saving purposes, including closing and activating electrical devices such as lights and appliances, and in automated bathroom soap and water dispensers.
